A police shootout leaves four thieves dead during an explosive armed robbery attempt in Chicago. Their widows — Veronica, Linda, Alice and Belle — have nothing in common except a debt left behind by their spouses’ criminal activities. Hoping to forge a future on their own terms, Veronica joins forces with the other three women to pull off a heist that her husband was planning.

Left with nothing. Capable of anything.

After a three-decade career playing more than 75 mostly supporting roles, this film marks Viola Daviss first lead role in a major studio movie.
In prepping for the project, Viola Davis asked director Steve McQueen what kind of wig or extensions she should wear to play Veronica. She was shocked when McQueen told her to wear her hair as is. Davis later remarked that this was a liberating experience for her and represented an important social statement.
